K-Paul's Just ok?????!!!!!????

So I had some bidness to take care of in the FQ last night. I asked my smoking hot girlfirend to gussy herself up and join me for dinner after my meeting. During the day, we went back forth ad nauseum between whether to eat at Irene's or K-Paul's. Finally I just had to say "Woman, shut up and just do what you are told, meet me at K-Paul's at 7:30 and look damn good." Somebody has to wear the pants in this relationship.
Well, JAG managed to follow through on all three of those requirements and while I had been to K-Paul's for lunch several times recently, it had been too long since I had dinner there. We came for the 3 courses for $30 and I have to say I felt a little snookered. The apps sounded horrible. A cheeseburger soup which makes me shudder just thinking about it and a duck and sausage crepe which I just wasn't in the mood for. The entrees were a little more appealing. A flounder topped with a shrimp cream sauce and a strip steak were the two most interesting. I almost got the flounder but I really didn't like either of the two apps and planned on ordering the softshell crab app, regardless.
The softshell crab app was outstanding, it came with a light remoulade sauce and the coating was a little grainer than I am used to,it was livened up with a decent shot of creole spice. Our second course was a salad of goat cheese, grilled apple and pecans. I think this salad would have been outstanding the week before Thanksgiving. It did not suit the mood or weather for the end of July. It also came with one goat cheese ball and somebody (not naming names here) got a little snippy when I attempted to split it amongest our two share plates.
JAG got the duck and shrimp dish. After eating several incredible meals together over the last seven weeks, I could tell she didn't like it. I went with the veal topped with scallops, lobster and mango. It was decent. Very filling but not the orgasmic, explode in your mouth flavor packed dishes that I have eaten here in the past.
We skipped dessert. Our server could best be described as aloof, if not a total pain in the ass. The whole meal felt tired, like the entire restaurant was going through the motions without any enthusiasm. I still recommend this place. I have been going there for 20 years and this was by far my worst experience and it wasn't that bad. But I will be monitoring reports to see if this is the norm.
