We all know that Bam eschews Sunday brunch...but being the persuasive woman that I am and the fact that I wanted to go there, we went to Juniper yesterday.

Bam was still full from the cinnamon roll the size of my head at the B&B, combined with out late start to the morning, so he was less than enthused with my planning. But the menu looked so good and I was ready to eat, so nothing was stopping me.

He had the soup of the day which was a duck and andoille gumbo. He finally out ordered me on something! I had the seafood gumbo that was ok, but the duck gumbo was far superior.

For an entree I had the Eggs Juniper which was their take on Eggs Benedict with crawfish and crab cakes. Very rich and wonderful. Bam had the asparagus and crabmeat appetizer with citrus hollandaise. Very good.

FYI if you go there, order wine by the bottle...

Everyone in the place seemed to enjoy their entree. Even the crabby woman in the red shirt who's mood improved greatly after she walked in on Bam Bam in the bathroom......

A couple of thoughts:

1) That cinnamon roll was like a giant f-ing insulin injection. I felt more light headed after consuming that thing then I did 4 miles after we tapped the last drops of water out of the 12 ounces of water that was supposed to get us through a 24 mile bike ride in 95 degree heat.

2) I read Fatzo's review of Juniper in anticipation our brunch. And the one thing I will give the Dean credit for, is that he does give you a pretty good feel of what the place is like. Well, he was pretty off on this one. Outside of the church across the street, I am not sure this was the same place in his review.

3) I thought hmmm, I am not that hungry. I could just go for something light. Maybe a waffle and some fruit or something. Not so fast my friend. This brunch menu has to contain the richest, most decadent brunch items this side of Brennan's. I mean everything involved eggs, beef, pork. Nothing I really wanted to eat at 11:30 am on a Sunday after closing Del Porto the night before.

4) The duck and quail gumbo was great but I had enough of it by the end. I wouldn't have wanted to finish a bowl. But it was significantly better than JAG's seafood gumbo.

I had dinner here a while back and it was outstanding. The Chilean Sea Bass was incredible and the Bouillabaisse was excellent. I've never been there for brunch.
