JAG and I went on the bike ride from hell today along the Tammany Trace. We started out at the Ronald Reagan statue in dowton Covington. Our goal was to bike to the lake and back. Being total city dweebs, we thought two twelve ounce bottles of water would be sufficient. Yeah right. We passed through Abita Springs, (funny how no one knew where the cool water ranch was) and saw a general store and a fruit stand. We debated whether to stop and decided, "it is too early in the ride, they'll be other stuff." Yeah right. We ran out of water ration around the I-12 overpass. Yet, I still decided to press on. Finally, after I vomitted, we headed back. We checked in at the Abita Brewpub which was totally packed at 2:30. We found two seats at the bar ordered some water, I had an Abita Pilsener. It is their select right now. Very crisp, perfect for a hot date. The menu is standard bar food but dressed up pretty well. Good selection of burgers, po boys and sandwiches.

We ordered the buffalo wings and these were as good a wing as you were going to find in the NOLA area. Very tangy with a good amount of heat, the wings were a good size with plenty of meat on them. They came accompanied with a blue cheese sauce that was more than just Kraft Bleu Cheese dressing.

We split the deep south burger, cheddar cheese, BBQ sauce and bacon. The burger was thick and moist and topped with lettuce, tomato and onions. We ordered sweet potato fries that had no taste to them whatsoever.

Overall, a great but crowded lunch spot. Strongly recommended.

Ya'll are nuts for trying that this time of the year.
I actually did that one day. Got there around 9:00 down at the Mandeville trailhead and rented a bike. Turned out to be one of of those ma maw bikes. That wore my ass out riding up to Abita in that heat.

The beer run is pretty fun for a lazy ass. Park in Abita. Peddle two miles to old Covington and drink at the Columbia St. Tap Room. Peddle back to Abita and have beers and lunch.

Covington to Abita was so easy, it was Abita Springs to the lake that I thought was going to kill me. And I thought I was in shape...hell no! 12 ounces of water in the middle of July in South Louisiana is not a good time on the Trace.

And a Ma Maw bike would have been a vast improvement from the bike built for two that Bam and I were on.

Pastries at a B&B are NOT sufficient breakfast for riding the Trace...next time I tell Bam I need protein he better believe me. But the burger at the brew pub was perfect and did the trick. Only 2 hours to late.

The next time Bam Bam says "OMG" or looks at me and says "semi colon, close parenthasis" I'm going to beat him over the head with a wine bottle. I mean seriously, does he think we met online or something?

Overall though, it was a great time!:)
