Rum House...Part 2

Bam Bam and I decided to try Rum House last night. I patiently waited for him to be ready but he was on the phone with his PI dude for almost an hour discussing my lunch date on Friday. When he was finally ready we headed up Magazine. To my shock the place was overflowing with people. I though, oh great, we're hip.
There was a table open but I opted for the bar. I think we would have had better service at the table since they would (or should) have been trying to flip but who knows. There are about 20 bar stools and they were mostly empty so we picked two and waited. And waited. Eventually we ordered drinks. I chuckled when my sexy date ordered a Pina Colada and it came with whipped cream on top...but when I tasted it I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was and didn't laugh at him too much. I ordered the "miracle" Margarita and enjoyed that.
We started with salsa and queso. The queso was good the salsa was too pureed for my taste and was lacking much...like garlic, onion...stuff that makes salsa salsa. Chips were fine.
Bam has a chile glazed shrimp entree and I had the "Cuban Steak" which was a marinated skirt steak. Both entrees came with their mango/coconut rice and grilled veggies. The rice was good, veggies were fairly pedestrian. Mine also came with fried plantains which I liked. The steak in my entree was excellent.
We all know Missy at Rio Mar has set the curve for a Caipirinha in town and my guess is no one at the Rum House has bothered to try it. Bam ordered one last night and it was absolutely undrinkable. I was mad at him for making me try it but he made it up to me. The bar manager dude did bring him a house frozen margarita to make up for it and admitted himself that the Caipirinha was the worst drink on the menu.
The food came out lightning fast once ordered. I approximate the lag
time between my entree being cleared and finally getting a check (which we asked for) to be about 45 minutes. Fortunately we were in no hurry but I was more then ready to go by then. And it wasn't that the employees were goofing off, all of them were hustling. I'd say give it a little time to figure out it's groove before going but give it a try.
We didn't order dessert. I know y'all are wondering.
