While we dine at Emeril's regularly for dinner, we've never been for lunch, until last week. Husband had some free time. We went on Mon. and returned 3 more times. Better than any coolinary special, generous portions plus more choices. It is available year round. We ordered from both the special and regular menu. Everything was excellent. We made resv. but no problem just walking in.

I went to Emeri's Friday for drinks before dinner at Tommy's.
I know it's hot and I know this is New Orleans, but good God people, can't you dress for dinner?!?!
From girls in gym shorts with "JUICY" written across their asses to grown men in tank tops (which should be totally illegal anywhere, anytime much less where people will be eating!)...flip flops, fanny packs, quick dry jogging shirts....Ridiculous. I think they were squeezing them to the section to the left of the bar at least.
I talked to Kevin(manager) about it and he said there's not much they can do. I guess we knew it was a slippery slope once we relaxed the dress codes, now we're just doomed.
Sorry for the hijack and thanks for the info on the lunch special-Maybe at that time, people will be in work clothes.

James Carvelle was there in a T-shirt.

I stopped in there today to get the menu. It says 3 courses in 30 minutes.
Starters: cup of soup or gumbo, smoked exotic mushrooms, crisp gulf
oysters, Abita root beer braised fresh bacon salad.
Main plates: sauteed rainbow trout, grilled niman ranch pork chop, bbq beef shortrib melt, truffled gulf shrimp Louis.
Desserts: vanilla bean creme brulee, lemon curd tart, house made sorbet.

That sounds like a hell of a deal. I can't wait to go. A reason to go to the city, in fact.
As for the dress of diners, I am as casual a guy as you will meeet. I would never go anywhere in a tank top (not since I was over 30 anyway), much less a nice restaurant. People, I know its hot, but I agree with Roux, show a little class. Bermuda shorts and a polo shirt should be a minimum for men at any nice place duing the summer (what is referreed to as resort casual, I think). If its not summer, shorts are out.

Chef Slater is doing great things at Emeril's, and he's Canadian. Not that its bad, just saying he's from up there. He has a great sensibility, is very laid back and gets the job done.
The dress issues can be a problem. If the dining market were flush with cash and we didn't need tourist dollars, you would not see people wearing horrible clothes in a beautiful restaurant. New Orleans is hurting. Emeril's is a landmark, the tourist are going to pop in. Commanders relaxed their dress code years ago, they were losing money turning well meaning guests away. People of means or not walk about our beautiful hot city. Must they make a $25 round trip cab ride to retrieve a coat and tie ? Its nice if restaurants can separate the dressed from the horribly dressed though. If you get all dressed up for a fine meal, you don't want a multi aged gym class seated next to you.

Lucie, well said on the dress issue. Even Richard Simmons in his trademark tank top would be offensive in a fine dining establishment.

Tought I should mention, the Abita Rootbeer bacon salad is excellent on the regular lunch and dinner menus but the scaled down version on the 19.50 special menu is lacking.
