I walked in front of the place today and could not figure out why in the world they would be rejected in the first place based on where they are located.
Glad to see things are working out for them.

BTG: being that it's my hood I'm not sure I'm ok with them getting the liquor license...

The Rum House got their Liquor license months ago. They put signs in their window as required by law proclaiming that they intend to sell alcahol. They put public notices in newspapers to make the community aware of their intentions, also required by law. Three years ago the city council of New Orleans announced the date that new liquor licenses would be reviewed and approved or not for this stretch of Magazine St.
You had your chance to legally disapprove, JAG, by calling the phone number on the posters in the windows. That Baton Rouge phone number is for people to call if they object to liquor being served in that particular piece of real estate. You could have also complained months ago to your city council member. She would have responded to your complaint in less than 24 hours. It is sort of too late to say you don't know if you approve of this, very late.

I am very much involved with my neighborhood association and I have my city counsil member's number in my phone, trust me. I attended several meeting, I said my peace and there's not much I can do about it. I wish the Rum House luck. I don't play the 'shoulda, coulda, woulda' game, I'm very proactive in my neighborhood.

Isn't this in the same stretch as the Bulldog, Balcony Bar, Rendevuez, etc? I wouldn't be too concerned about new restaurants with bars opening as much as I would trying to do something about the pack and go type of liquer stores on some of the corners that help run the area down.

Puccino's could not get a liquor license.
Rum House had no problem.

It pays to have good attorneys!
