I haven't been since NY Eve and I think it was a special menu so I can't be of much help but I did want to suggest that you check out Anais St. John in the Polo Lounge before you leave.

I was just going to post the same thing. Anais is there every Friday and Saturday nights. Definitely make time to have cocktails there.

Just thought I'd post a report from the evening.

We started out having a couple of cocktails in the bar, all of which were excellent.

My wife started with a roasted corn soup. It was cream based, and very good. I started with an heirloom tomato & watermelon salad. It was served with olive oil, balsamic & creme fresh. It was a perfect summer dish.

Next course was a crabcake for the wife, which was the largest crabcake I've seen in a restaurant. No exaggeration, it was an inch thick and bigger than a hockey puck. There had to be at least a half pound of crabmeat in it, all huge lumps. It was peppery, with not much in it besides crabmeat. It was great. I had a crudu of yellow fin served four ways. It was good, not great.

I had hanger steak for the entree, which was served with a mushroom/tomato ragout and olive oil mashed potatoes. It was very good, very beefy. The ragout was awesome. Wife had the filet & butter poached lobster. Her filet was cooked perfectly and was delicious. The lobster though, was very over cooked which was a bummer.

For dessert we had a flour-less chocolate cake which came with a espresso semi-freddo (sp?), pistachio ice cream and something else I can't remember. It was very good.

The wine list at the restaurant was incredible, and very well priced. All in all, it was a great experience. The waiter was very good and beside the over cooked lobster the food was outstanding. The place was dead though. I mean really dead. Hopefully it's just the heat keeping people out, and hopefully it doesn't stay that bad.

Cocktails and Anais in the Polo lounge were great, thanks for that suggestion!

I have had butter poached lobster a few times. It must take a delicate hand because I too have had it overcooked everywhere except at The French Laundry.
