My DD is turning 9 at the end of the month. To celebrate, she and I are having a Mother/Daughter night out to see Oliver at Tulane's Summer Lyric Theater. We want to do dinner beforehand, but nothing too fancy. Her favorite thing to eat is cheese and she adores cheese boards. I was thinking of Ciro's and ordering their cheese plate, charcuterie, maybe the tomato and mozzarella salad. She loves all of those things. Plus we could also do a pizza. I haven't been to Ciro's in ages. Anyone been there lately?Would it be crowded on a Thursday evening? Do you think it would be appropriate for such a pre-theater dinner for the two of us? Otherwise, I am stumped. She loves both Impastato's and Andreas but I just don't want either of those...

I was there this past Saturday night. It's still a great, quiet, relaxing place. And like most restaurants they desperately need the business. We had the cheese and pate plate and it was excellent. We also had the "Everything" pizza. Ordered a large but the waitress confused our order and brought out a regular. It was good, but the large is better since the crust will be thinner. Honest mistake, no big deal. We still took home 2 slices.

Recommended. Especially with a couple Maker's Marks before dinner.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. A friend of mine has strongly recommended Crepe Nanou but I don't want to deal with a crowd. And if Ciro's needs the business I'd rather go there. St. James was my first choice, sitting on the patio, since she also loves it there. But they are closed by dinner. Didn't know about Il Posto, I'll have to check it out for another occasion.

Looking forward to my dinner date with my not so little girl, sigh.

Enjoy these birthdays with your little girl! I can STILL (at the ripe age of 49) remember several mother/daughter birthdays in restaurants.... 7, 11, 13, 15.... all of which make me smile. Embrace these moments/days!

We were there either Friday or Saturday night. While it was busy, we were seated right away. We had the charcuterie board, hangar steak & a mushroom, chicken pasta dish. Everything was very good.

My favorite pizza is the L'Olivier. Goat cheese, mozz, persillade, kalamatas & onion. While that pizza would be my first choice as a cheesey item - there is also the garlic cheese bread to consider. I mention it because it is cheezy & I do like their bread. However the pizza is hands down the winner.

We had a wonderful meal at Ciro's last night. It wasn't crowded when we walked in but it sure was when we left! Daughter and I shared the cheese and pate' plates as well as the tomato and mozzarella salad. All was delicious, plentiful and quite a bargain. The space itself was cozy and our table for two was perfect for some nice talk and laughter. Oliver at Tulane Summer Lyric was fabulous. Ricky Graham as Fagin was the highlight for me.
