Fat Hen Grill

I had lunch at the Elmwood location due to the fact that somebody was a bit moody when I called to see if they wanted to have lunch. The menu was quite extensive, breakfast is available all day but I was warned to stay away from the breakfast food. Although, I am not sure how you can screw up breakfast.

So I had a gorgonzola burger, fries and a chocolate milkshake. The milkshake didn't have enough flavor, mostly milk, not enough ice cream. It was thick and was very eye catching with whipped cream and chocolate shavings. But the taste was subpar. I liked the burger, although it came awkwardly shaped on a long onion roll and started to fall apart about halfway through making it somewhat difficult to eat. The fries were waffle shaped always a plus but they were not cooked to order and like the burger suffered from a soft texture. I like my fries crispy. Overall, I thought the food looked better than it tasted and I would hesitate to recommend the place.

yep, I laughed , I cried , I kissed $20 goodbye. food and service were very disappointing. nothing we ordered came out as ordered, and that was if the waiteress bothered to remember she had a table.

it is reported elsewhere that he is expanding to take over the old Blue Bird Cafe location.

If dessert is done properly it can make everyone involved smile:whip:

Dessert would have been lunch had I not been 'moody'.

I went for the first time recently for breakfast (Elmwood). I had the poached eggs with hollandaise on top of crawfish cakes. They were pretty good. The waitress was very attentive, but it was not crowded, which seemed odd for a Saturday at 8 AM. If I lived in the area, I would give it another shot, but it is not worth a journey from Uptown. Now if he takes over the old Blue Bird space I would try that since that's walking distance for me.

I also had a poor experience at this place and will probably not try it again. The waitress was nice, but I thought she should have mentioned that the artichoke bread was actually hearts of palm bread, which just isn't the same and was not very good. Overall nothing special and I don't forsee it staying open very long as there is never anybody there.

That's weird. I live fairly close by and drive by at least once a day...there are always people there. We've been a couple of times..I can't say that it's really anything to write home about...but, they've always had people in the restaurant besides us.

I almost always see cars in the parking lot, but most of those are for that bar behind Fat Hen. I pass by at least once a day also, as it is on my route, and the place always looks almost empty. Maybe it's busy for breakfast? Although I've driven by on a Sat. morning before about 9am and it was empty...I thought that was odd for a breakfast place on a Sat. morning.
