Hungarian Settlement, LA

Ever hear of that place? I've been meaning to check it out for some time now and finally got a chance to do so Saturday. Mrs. Fury is ready to go anywhere with the new little Honda Insight fuel miser she just got!

The area we visited is in Livingston Parish, not very far from Springfield or Ponchatoula. The towns of Hungarian Settlement and Albany in Livingston Parish are picture perfect, spotless, lawns all clipped, no trash or junky cars. We checked out a couple of cemeteries to get a feel for the family names. I wanted to stop in at Bartus Hungarian Sausage and Pastry Shop, but they were closed. We'll be going back. If you find yourselves in the area we suggest dining at Charlie's or Lagniappe just South of Springfield on LA 22.

My father is from Hungary and I had the occasion to visit there back in the late 70's and early 80's. I am definitely going to check this out!!

Jeeves, We've been to Louis Bartus' place several times. Good sausage... The smell of that Hungarian paprika hangs in the house for days afterwards, though. :) He's a pretty cool guy - He very gladly gave us a tour of his set up, including showing us several old newspaper articles about his business. He also gave us some info on upcoming social events at local churches and other places out there. He does keep different hours: I think he's only open on Fri & Sat (?) but if I remember right his sign right there by the interstate has his number on it and says call to see him other times. Anyway, if y'all make it back, have fun!

We're going back, Jane. I have Louis' number and if anyone else is interested see http://www.livingstonparish.com/bartus.htm I'll call before we go next time so I'll be sure to catch him when he's open. His pastries sound interesting, too. He's located just off I-12 Exit 32 South.

We might be able to go this weekend since I have possibly already infected Jeeves with my illness. Somebody see if y'all can get a hold of the sausage man.

Y'all are funny. Actually the gas is measured in cups! HA HA!

It's a ten gallon tank. This (second) tank will get me closer to 47mpg. heh heh.

Speaking of cups, what's the cup size of the Insight's new bra?
