Petite Petit Revisited

Another tasting of a wine I reported on at TOB nearly two years ago. The meatiness is still there-- fat, smoky, and almost like bacon, after an additional two years laid down. I know that sounds odd for a wine descriptor, but there it is. The flavors are all more balanced now, and blueberry and raspberry from the Petite Sirah shine through nicely. Where to purchase it now, I have no idea.
This doesn't even appear on their website, but I picked up a bottle of 2005 "Petite Petit", by Michael~David Vineyards out of Lodi, the other day. Inky purple, it's Petite Sirah blended with Petit Verdot, and it's a real teeth-stainer. If you like what PV brings to a Bordeaux, and you're a fan of big reds in general, as I am, you'll like this huge, but oddly easy-drinking red. Good body and mouthfeel, chewy, almost meaty, the PV brings a nice balance of acidity, and a nose that's full of carmelized sugar that belies plenty of fruit underneath. Begs for a juicy, medium rare steak. 14.5%ABV. Around $20 at Vintages.
