Easter Dinner: What Did You Cook?

I did braised lamb shanks. The house smelled wonderful the entire afternoon. (Still does.) And what a result-- unbelievably tender, melt in your mouth lamb, and it made it's own hearty and rustic red gravy, cooking for over two and a half hours in a braising liquid based upon a vegetable puree of carrot, celery, onion and garlic, with a reduction of red wine, tomato paste, rosemary and thyme. And I have a quart of red lamb gravy I can't decide what to do with next to show for it. (All I had to do to serve it with the meal was put some in a fat separator while the meat rested!)

After the leg of lamb idea bombed, see

we went with the two nice steaks I bought, topped with mushrooms in sauce, and served with fresh asparagus and canned red beets. Tasty and satisfying, but no great aromas wafting through house.

Wife did unusual creative desert. Took a left-over chocolate covered donut from this morning, cut it to have two round half donuts, placed chocolate down/inside up, drizzled with Tuaca. Covered with fresh sliced strawberries in their juice. Cover that with strawberry yogurt. Add a cherry and then - SUPER SPECIAL SHORTCAKE!

Baked ham, smothered green beans with shallot and bacon, gratin Dauphinoise, homemade carrot cake. Carved a watermelon in a basket for my daughter and filled it with fresh fruit. I think that's all she ate all day, LOL.
