Ugly Dog, going downhill?

The last few times I've been, I haven't loved it. This makes me sad because I've been eating (and drinking) here for a very long time. I never thought the food was great, but was always consistently good with a great dive atmosphere. Not so much anymore, and this sucks.

I've eaten there a lot over the years. Was it the atmosphere that sucks now or the food? If it's the food, what went downhill? I'd love to know if I need to start changing my orders? Thanks.

I hate to hear that. This was one of the best values in the city and always a good place to grab a bite and a brew before hitting the quarter for the day.

The Ugly Dog is so tired. People really aren't going there any more. When in that hood, check out Dino's.

The last three times I've been, I've had a burger once, the brisket once and the ribs the other times. All three times they have just been OK. The sides don't seem to have the same zing they once had. I don't know. Bam Bam's description of them being tired is a great way to describe my last few experiences. In fact it's perfect.
It bums me out too, it was my go to cheap eats and drinks place too.

I'm not familiar. Do tell, if you don't mind? I work downtown and am always looking for new cheap lunch spots. Thanks.

I think Dino's is on the corner of Tchoupitoulas and Calliope. I don't know anything about the food though. Is it good? What do they have?
Here's a pic

Ugly Dog is certainly a nice space. Surprisingly large for what they've been peddling. It'll be interesting to see what comes of the place.
No offense, but I've always considered Dino's to be D-bag central. Slick, polished, stacked with vain, self-important yuppies. An excess of cosmetics and hair product on both sexes. Kind of a hipster lounge slash pick up joint. Granted, the last time I was there was many years ago save for the one time I went to an Abita pub crawl, always a regrettable experience. Maybe the place is cooler now, more relaxed and less pretentious.

There certainly is an element of that there on some nights but I don't find it to be nearly as bad as Whiskey Blue, The Delachaise or even The Columns in terms of D-bags per capita.
Outside of the Burgers and the Buffalo Chicken Tenders (an off the menu item), the food isn't all that great but it is a fun place to hang and they do have the single best contingent of hot bartenders anywhere in the city. My personal favorite is Jenny.

Thanks. I frequently want a good burger. I'll give them a try. Of course the bartenders won't hurt things.
