Butcher...meh

In my never ending quest to eat at the most expensive places humanly possible, I had lunch here. This is the wine bar/butcher shop next to Cochon. My first impression is that the guy's business model, buy the best and then overcharge for it in a sassy, revved up atmosphere, is wholly unsustainable in the age of Obama.

I paid $14 for a Reuben. Possibly the thinnest amount of meat on a sandwich, I have ever seen in my life. I made a passing comment to our waitress, and she laughed it off. The homemade potato chips are quite tasty though. But again, there were maybe 12 chips in the basket.

There is a butcher counter and while I thought the cuts meat looked awesome, $19 a lb for a ribeye is outrageous. $14 for lamb shanks, are you f-ing kidding me? Even Whole Paycheck gives those things away. There are also several Butcher "specials" were you can expect to be gouged. Jamabalaya stuffed chicken will run you $25 each. $9 a pint for their chicken and sausage gumbo.

I hate to just object to things on price. And the ribeyes did look great but this whole concept looks like a giant exercise in overcharging and underdelivering. Not recommended.

I haven't been so I don't want to pile on, but since it's next door to Nola Grocery, where Murray has possibly the BEST prices in town...I'm kind of suprised to hear this. I know it's a different game plan, different clientel for the most part, but still...

Where to next Bam Bam?

Maybe it was $1 per chip and $2 for the sandwich. After seeing a tuna sandwich on white bread advertised for ten bucks I said I'd never eat there. I tried a sample of the bacon pralines and it was a hunk of chewy bacon in a praline. Would have been better if there were crispy bits of bacon in a praline, IMO. I eat nextdoor.

I love Cochon, so I thought I'd give the Butcher a try. Mistake. Bam bam's right, very small portions with very big prices. Flavor-wise, nothing to write home about.
I don't, however, think $25 for a jambalaya stuffed whole chicken is over priced. It'll feed four people.

Gourmet Butcher Block, IMHO has the best stuffed chicken with either shrimp or crawfish and rice. Their's are only $11.00, still will feed 4
