Breakfast at the Ruby Slipper

After a court appearance this morning, I met C-note for breakfast at the Ruby Slipper. This is a breakfast/lunch place behind Mandina's that you would need to know it was there to find it. The interior is quite attractive, plenty of wood and New Orleans art. Service was very attentive and friendly.

I had the bananas foster french toast. My partner in crime decided to order what was essentially a meat omelet.

His wasn't great. Basically, ham, sausage and bacon were encased in folded over eggs. Mine was pretty good, but a more pronounced banana flavor would have been nice. Coffee was weak. There appear to be some other things on the menu, I was intrigued by the migas, but passed with this being lent and all.

I may go back for further investigation but I cannot recommend this restaurant for breakfast at this time.

I have to agree with you. The decor is homey, the staff is friendly, and the owners seem nice enough. But a limited menu done merely well enough. OK, not great. And not worth driving across town for. If I lived in the hood, then I'd likely be back.

EC is right about Huevos, though. The whole ordering/service thing is rough, but the food is a thing apart. I'd cross town to go back there.

I found Huevos to be pretty good...though not great. The service is very friendly and the coffee was incredible.

I took EC's advice and went to Huevos. Menu is very limited. They only do breakfast. Everything is very fresh. Coffee is good, not great. I had the Blue Jay special. Eggs, cheese, chaurice wrapped in a flour tortilla. It is much better than the Ruby Slipper. Recommended.
