Murphy's Law or How To Get Red Wine out of Cotton

Last night during a really wonderful gathering of old friends and new, and EXCELLENT food, I watched in slow motion as an entire glass of really smooth red Brazillian or Portugese, (not sure which) wine tsunami-ed towards me, engulfing my white shirt and khaki slacks.... I still have this mental picture of all that wine, suspended in the air, in a large sheet.....

So, I was rather sticky and wet, not to mention smelly....

At some point I stepped outside to indulge in a smoke.... and I hear quietly, "hey Ms. Judi"..... a group of my son's friends - oh yeah. (For those who don't know, I have a son who is a Franciscan Friar, and his friends are profoundly... well, religious).

So there I am, the mother of this paragon.... covered in red wine, smoking.... rofl!!!!!!!!!!!!! You know how it goes, the more you try to explain....

But here's the thing... I sat in those clothes for several hours. I thought they were ruined. We sprayed them with spray and wash, washed them in cold water.... and the stains came out a lovely dark blue color.

Without drying them, this morning I put my machine on soak, added Tide and bleach, soaked them for twenty minutes and rinsed...

Voila'.... all gone. :)

Oxyclean has never failed me. I don't even soak. I just put it over the damp part, (I know you were already dry), I spritz with a little spray and wash, then oxyclean, then dump in wash.

........expert at wine stains:toast:

Yvette, Isa recommended that I ask you about it! LOL, and expat said she loves oxyclean. I'm going to pick some up the next time I'm in Walgreens. It's probably sold elsewhere, but you can count on Walgreens to have those "as seen on TV" products. (without the shipping charges, I might add!)

Oxyclean is great. Just don't use it on metal. I was going to soak a grill basket when I read on the container not to use it on metal. I've used it on the carpet, clothes and to clean out antique bottles.

Ditto on the Oxyclean and red wine. I had once posted on TOB about noticing a wine stain removal product I could no longer obtain had as an active ingredient something sounding suspiciously similar to it, and how well it worked. I even laundered grass-stained jeans that had been inadvertently washed and machine-dried with it, and it got it all out.

Remember, first aid for red wine stain is white wine. After that, Oxyclean.

Judi, did you bleach the pants too?
Just curious what kind of bleach you used that had them come out ok.
