Sofritos

Has anyone ever made this latin style tomato based seasoning paste?

I've looked at recipes on line and there are as many different recipes as there are recipe sites. I notice many contain some ingredients that are, frankly, foreign to me and I'm not sure I could get them, even at the latin markets, such as culantro leaves and ajies dulces(ajitos?) peppers.

Is there something that is similar to sofritos that I can get locally?

I assume culantro is cilantro, you can get anywhere, and ajies dulces are sweet red peppers. Here is what I found:

the WalMart on Jeff Hwy has a nice selection of goods in their Hispanic section as well as produce.
the family in front of me one time had 3 baskets filled with avocados, tomatoes, cilantro, onions, beef, chicken, and shrimp...I wanted to follow them home.
