Sunday Lunch at Hymel's, Convent, LA

Hymel's dining room. It hasn't changed much since the 60s when I first discovered the place. Good juke box, too! Paper table coverings! Bring Crayolas®!
Iced tea in a frosty mug! You can get beer in 'em, too, but Mrs. Fury won't let me drink when I'm driving! She is sooooo strict!
Crawfish bisque with STUFFED HEADS! YEAR ROUND! Yay Hymels!
Mrs. Fury's t-shirt I given her! L'il cemetery freak!
We're going again Saturday to visit Carville if anyone is interested in meeting us.

I had bisque on my last vsiit. Great!! After lunch, we paid a visit to Carville. It is worth a visit. If/when we have a new pandemic of flu or some other emergent infectious disease, it may get pressed into service again!

"Carville (pop. 1108) is an unincorporated village in Iberville Parish, Louisiana that is 16 miles south of Baton Rouge on the Mississippi River. Carville is the hometown of political personality James Carville and was in fact named after his grandfather, the postmaster. It is also the location of the National Hansen's Disease Museum, which records the history of the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital there, which for a hundred years treated leprosy (now called Hansen's Disease) patients. The hospital has been closed, but several of the buildings remain."
Carville was referenced on a recent episode of House re: a leprosy patient...so you know.

Carville is also a training ground for law enforcement and other first responder personnel in bio-terrorism and anti-terrorist tactics. Looking forward to our visit again this weekend.
I'll probably get another bowl of crawfish bisque at Hymel's (food related topic).

These are GREAT pictures, thanks Jeeves! LOL, Mrs. F, I love your t-shirt.
Over the holidays we took our visiting kids to Deanies, and after we finished up I cruised through the seafood mart side... and saw that they are selling frozen, cleaned heads! I'm going to have to remember that, if I get the urge to make bisque.
We used to go to Hymel's when we were at LSU. Tom loved the beers, lol. I loved the seafood. Is it still light and non-greasy?

Yep. My shrimp were not greasy at all. They were big and delicious.
