Lola Review YUMMY!

Post by nikinik »

My awesome hubby took me to dinner at Lola Saturday night for my birthday celebration. I'd rate it basically the same that I always have. Overall 8 out of 10. Service = 7. Food = 9. I LOVE Lola...probably because I LOVE garlic. You pretty much have to love garlic to eat here. We started off drinking our own wine on the front stoop. I love that this place is BYOB...and no cork fee. Once inside I ordered their sangria. It's delicious and it's a bargain at $12 a bottle. To start my husband had a crab salad. I'd give it a 9 out of 10. VERY tasty! I had the tomato basil salad. I'd give it an 8 out of 10. Very fresh and fragrant too with the fresh basil. Then my husband had a soup. I don't remember what it was called but it was incredible. I'd give it a 9 out of 10. I had the garlic shrimp. 10 out of 10! Taking their awesome pistolettes and smearing them with their garlic spread and dipping it in that shimp sause is about as good as it gets! For my husband's entree he had the seafood paella. It was tasty...but could've used more seafood. I'd give it a 7 out of 10. For my entree I had the grilled lamb chops with gorgonzola dipping sauce. 9.5 out of 10. I love this dish. The lamb is so tender and juicy and the dipping sauce compliments it so well. I also love that it's served over basmati rice...which is my favorite. The only reason I didn't give it a 10 is because it was oh so slightly overcooked. With both of us getting salads and both of us getting appetizers and entrees and also with sangria, we got out of there for $100...not too bad IMHO. Lola still remains in my top 10 places to eat in New Orleans.

I agree that Lola's food rates right up there with some of the best in town. There are some issues, like the service, which is just casual service, but all-in-all, I love it. That garlic spread you mentioned is killer stuff. I haven't been in a while so thanks for the reminder.

I feel your pain. I LOOOOOVE indian food, but for the most part have been underwhelmed at what New Orleans has to offer. I used to love Indian Palace off of Vets but they are gone after Katrina. Now I love India 4 U in Mandeville....but it's quite a trek to go for Indian food.

Lola's is a dining value. The meat paella seems to have more meat than the seafood has seafood. We always get mojo sauce with it. If you like heat, once you try it, you can't eat it without it.

We're going for the first time tonight. I have never been there. Do they have parking?

They don't, but street parking on Esplanade around there isn't too bad.

Do they provide stemware for the wine you bring in? Or is it better to bring your own?
