Sesame Inn is damn good

Post by Jesse »

I don't know if any of you Northshore folks haven't been here, but I am really beginning to love this place. It's not an adventuresome menu, just straight up classic (as I know it) Chinese food. They food is consistently good, my last few moo shoo pork's have been wonderfully cooked with the perfect ratio of pork, cabbage, bamboo shoots and mushrooms. The soups are always delicious, and the rice and noodle sides are always just what they should be. They also have a good variety of appetizers, my favorites are the crab rangoon (which I normally think of as a kids dish) and the fried dumplings. The owner, and everyone else who works there for that matter, is super friendly. While I can't say the restaurant is worth driving to the Northshore for, it can't be beat on this side of the lake.

Does anyone have the southshore equivalent to this place? A consistently good Chinese place? Ever since Fortune Gardens closed post-K, I can't find authentic Kung Pao Chicken and finding any Chinese food that's good and not super-Americanized has been difficult. The best I've found is Beijing Chinese at Clearview and I-10, and it's only acceptably good. I haven't tried China Rose off Severn yet and frankly I'm a little intimidated by the triple menu system.
