PNG,
I've had what I consider to be food poisoning a couple of times. I knew, unequivically, what caused it. The doctor explained why I knew... but I won't go into it here, it's very gross.
Jesse, I think you did the right thing in calling. Reasonable managers want and need to know things like that. As Laura pointed out, it may have been one bad shrimp or something... not a general contamination.
I agree with everyone who said it's hard to eat that dish again.... for a VERY long time.
Jesse, I sure hope your wife is back to normal now! That's a rough thing to go through.
Suspected Food Poisoning, should I call the restaurant?

As I look back at my posts, I've found no accusations in my words. I simply said I suspect food poisoning from a certain restaurant (that I have not named) and wondered if I should call them. Not looking for anything, not filing any law suits, just curious if you all thought the restaurant would want to know. I didn't say I thought the place was dirty, unsanitary, a health risk or any of the like. I just said my wife got sick after eating there. She had a dish (and only ate that dish) no one else at the table ate. She hadn't eaten 6 hours previous. Immediately after leaving the restaurant she began to feel bad. Three hours later she was puking. For 24 hours. While that may not be clear enough for you, it's as clear as it can possibly be for me. And this is restaurant I really like. Maybe it wouldn't hold up in court, but that was never my goal or stated intention.
And she is back normal now. Thanks for all yalls concern!

Food Poisioning is serious and should not be taken lightly. The C.D.C. lists over 30 different Bacterias, Viruses and Parasites that contribute to it and the Incubation Period is quite different for many. Staphlococcal and Anisakiasis get you with in a few hours and Hepatitas takes up to 50 days and many take more than a day to show their pain. I am grateful the law states that one person employed in food handling (In each establishment) should take an approved 8 hour sanatation class every five years. The holidays is when the most Food Bourne Illnesses are reported. There are also Food Bourne Intoxications (Has nothing to do with your Martini).
Re: Suspected Food Poisoning, should I call the restaurant?
It was pretty obvious that you weren't accusing anyone or planning to file a lawsuit, Jesse.
I sure hope your wife is feeling better... and I wouldn't mention a return trip to that place for a while.

Re: Suspected Food Poisoning, should I call the restaurant?
DH had food poisoning several years ago. He vomited all night and kept replenishing liquids. I left him home in the morning while I went to work. He passed out on the bathroom floor. Woke up to find himself covered in water because when he hit the floor he knocked the toilet off it's foundation. Ended up in the ER, where his blood pressure crashed and they threw me out of the room while they worked on him. He also required several bags of IV fluid. I called the parish health dept to report the establishment. They took it seriously. If you suspect it, report it. That was a scary day in our lives. DH was in his early 20's and very healthy. Imagine what it could do to children or the elderly!

PNG, I'm not going to argue with you.
I think you're totally missing my point.
And your point is something vastly different.
You'll believe what you want to believe.
I have no problem with that.
At one time, lots of people told Christopher Columbus
that he was crazy, and the world was flat.
Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's not there.
Respectfully,
Isabella
