I use the basic handheld ones as well.

I love the handheld one I have now as the "crank" is very large molded plastic job that turns so easily and doesn't hurt your hand like the really cheapo ones do. I am sure it was inexpensive, but it works great.

I just went on Amazon and purchased the Ozo (sp?) handheld the reviews were great! My dilemma is over.........ah, if only all of life's problems were this uncomplicated!

I made the mistake of getting a manual one at Williams & Sonoma which broke within 3 months and the replacement broke by 6 mos. The replacement came from a grocery and is still in service 5+ years later.
As for what it opens, the usual items above, and particularly canned tomatoes and chick peas.

Manual hand crank is the only way to go. How lazy can you be?

Hand held "good cook" safe edges opener. I cut myself so easily I like this kind best.
What does it open? Pandora's box:laughup:
last few things: evaporated milk, peas, tuna fish and vegetarian beans.
I have never had a problem with it, of course having said that, I will now:shootself:

Buy a cheap hand crank opener and as soon as it offers the slightest resistance, toss it and get another one.
