We said dinner or supper interchangeably and I grew up in Philly.

Truth be told, though, my family is comprised of gypsies - no one has stayed very long in any one place to really get entirely immersed into any one culture. We're a conglomerate of many regions.

I eat lunch and dinner almost daily. I rarely eat breakfast.

I might say supper for dinner once in a while, but usually dinner is the evening meal.

Mt granparents ate a big dinner at lunch and ate supper at night.

As long as its good, I don't care what its called.

Growing up here in New Orleans at our house we always had our big meal at noon and it was called dinner. Supper was the evening meal and usually was a sandwich or something light.

After getting married and having kids it has always been lunch and dinner at our home. My oldest son (38) who now lives in Kansas City now calls the evening meal supper. When he says this it now sounds strange to me.

Well, that's my answer, too. We have "supper" most evenings in the summer. It's just too hot to cook and eat larger, heavy meals.

I'm from Kentucky and the noon meal was always lunch and evening meal was dinner...Doug is from Kansas City and his noon meal is dinner and evening meal is supper...so maybe it is a midwestern thing.

Well...what an enlightinging thread. Who cares? Who really cares? What about people that say that we are so multi cultural? Many difeeerent cultures/countries use different terminologies for eating habits. WHO CARES? I feel like I am contributing to some kind of 1st grade paper but if I do not respond it will continue. Why do not we talk about what happened to all of the Valet Parkingf lot attendants that have no jobs since the storm? Ruth's Chris on Fulto Street NOT serving breakfast anymore? You all seem mto know so much... why the supper/dinner thing? PLEASE

In my experience, especially in an urban setting, we eat lunch and dinner, dinner being the larger meal. However in rural and farming communities, dinner is eaten at the noon hour and supper is served at night, primarily consisting of leftovers or sandwiches.
