I went last night for a quick bite. Not too busy, maybe 4 tables seated but it was around 730p. I really like what they did with the interior. The last time I had been there it was a forgettable Chinese restaurant and very cave-like. I skipped the place when it was a Mexican restaurant.
Now it is a very open space with tiled floors and lacking that industrial feel that many strip mall restaurants have.
We sat at the bar so we could watch the basketball game and chat with the help. Really nice people and very down to earth. I asked if they had received their liquor license and the manager/owner (?) said they had not but there was a bar (the Cabaret Lounge) at the end of the mall that would sell drinks to go. (Gotta love New Orleans)
As an aside, it was the bartender's birthday at the Cabaret and I was invited to partake in the celebration, including food and cake! I skipped but they were really nice.
I had the vermicelli noodle bowl with char-grilled pork and egg rolls on top. It came with a side of nuoc mam. It was a large bowl of noodles with romaine, cilantro, carrots, crushed peanuts and slices of pork. The 2 egg rolls were semi-sliced into 3 pieces each and served very hot. I am not a huge egg roll aficionado but these were very good. I would have like a little bit more nuoc mam to dress the noodles up but it didn't detract from the dish. It was a surprisingly light dish for being a huge bowl of food.
Unfortunately, my dc had already eaten and didn't order anything so this was the only dish I was able to try. The mgr told me the poboys were excellent and a big hit with the crowds. I'll definitely try those next.

Re: Pho Nola
For lunch I had what flyin' had for dinner last night. I liked it. The hot tea was pretty weak but I enjoyed my lunch. The pork was good, the eggrolls very good and everything was fresh and crisp. I'll be back.
