Which Ain't Dere No More Place Do You Miss?
Re: Which Ain't Dere No More Place Do You Miss?
Thank you so much for the pics, Jerry. After Frankie had to close down her cafe in Bucktown we moved our meeting places to Hong Kong, Amberjack's and Acme. Now that is all gone, too.

Thankfully Bobby Roth reopened the original Steak Knife on Harrison Avenue, so it ain't all bad.

Jerry, thanks for the pics! I wish they would do something with the building (a restaurant preferably) so we could enjoy that view again. The shot of the front room of the restaurant is pretty heart wrenching. I guess it's more poignant that it's a part of my childhood gone.
Jeeves, my wife and I loved Frankie's in the Riverbend and in Bucktown. We went all the time. That's on my list too.
I would also add Christian's to the list. I really miss that smoked softshell crab.

You can get a similar view at GNO TriSports! They opened where Acme was right next door. It's a triathlon training gym but they do have a cafe! I think you have to be on a bike or treadmill to enjoy the view, unless you're out on the deck.

I only knew Odyssey on Metairie Rd. Did Lakeview have that yummy cheese appetizer? I miss that so much!

Oooooh, we always went to Odyssey when it was in Lakeview. We loved it and followed it to Metairie Rd. I'm sorry it's gone. The original location is now Dixie Chicken and Ribs.

Odyssey was a weekly hit for that chicken salad w/blue cheese, garlic pods, potatoes, apples and wicked dressing. also loved those stacked eggplants w/giant scallops.LiveOak wrote:Oooooh, we always went to Odyssey when it was in Lakeview. The Saganaki, yes. And wonderful grilled octopus! Leg of Lamb!justagirl wrote:I only knew Odyssey on Metairie Rd. Did Lakeview have that yummy cheese appetizer? I miss that so much!
And one of my absolute favs was the Pan Bagnat add grilled tuna & feta.
That was sooooo good! Everything was good there & it was much better than the Metry Rd location... so imagine that! We lived in Lakeview so we had dinner or lunch there 3 or 4 times a week.

OMG! I never had the stacked eggplant with giant scallops.
Darn, tell me about what I missed!
I loved Austin's as well.
Their chicken salad & fried chicken was unbelievably good.
Again, this is when I lived in Lakeview & frankly, had a tiny kitchen most of those years, so never really cooked much. Disposable income was high, so we ate out for almost every meal.
Which now reminds me of Bacchi. It's across from the Old Steak Knife & was once Barataria. Ah, loved Bacchi too. Miss that as well.
