Hey, I ate my persimmon over the weekend. It had become noticeably soft, and I figured the time was right. I just cut it in half, and scooped out the innards. It was, as mentioned previously, custard-y and sweet, but without any really outstanding characteristic flavor that I would call "persimmon". On my morning walk, I noticed a neighbor has a tree in their back yard chock-full of the same type.

did you cut the seed to see what kind of winter is predicted?

There were three dark seeds that looked like over-sized watermelon seeds, each surrounded by a gelatinous mass that was different in texture from the rest of the pulp. I did not know they possessed meteorological properties.

we have 2 trees and the papayas keep coming. One is over 18' tall the other about 12'. Both are only 2 yrs. old. I don't even like papayas (these are my son's babies).

The persimmon seed can predict the winter when cut cut in half. If a spoon is revealed, there will be a lot of precipitation. A knife means that the wind will cut like a knife, cold. A fork means that the weather would be unsettled (alternate periods of mild and cold).

What's inside your persimmons?
We're getting all spoons in Arkansas. Could mean Rain, snow or another ice storm...ouch.
