I had the former chef in from prejeans today for lunch. He had one with bacon, onions, mushrooms, cheddar cheese and BBQ sauce. He said it was the best burger he had ever eatin.

The last actual incarnation of the inventors whom JAG mentioned is at McGuire's Grill and Pub. It's at Magazine and St. Joe and has two of the original ones, the cajun and the cheese one, from the original spot on its menu. I've only tried one once. It was an interesting gimick(sp ??) but I haven't done that to myself since.

Roux, it's City Diner in Metairie on Causeway by La Quinta...old Denny's.

What goes into the fryer? Just the burger? Or do you somehow wrap all of the above in a crisp breaded crust?

I am cooking the patty first on the char grill, then placing it on a bun with all of the toppings. Then it gets double battered and deep fried.

That's different from the McGuire's method. They take two four ounce patties, I think, put the "stuffing" in a pocket in between, smoosh the burgers together, deep fry the burger and serve on bread/roll/french. It's different.

Thanks for the location info JAG and Jerry.

As for a deep fried cheeseburger, I've never had one and imagine that it would be pretty awesome-but every time I read the thread title, I feel my valve closing a little.
