Road Show

Post by The Bear »

Went on the road yesterday to Baton Rouge to go to the Sysco Holiday Show. It was at 4 PM. I left Lake Charles at 12 to avoid most of the traffic. It was at the Holiday Inn Selct right off College. I arrived about two exited College and went down Corporate to Town Centre and had a late lunch at PF Chang. If you want to see what I ate I will post on my blog tonight. I then went to the hotel, registered and got the booklet on what they were featuring. To my eminent surprise and satisfaction New Orleans Ice Cream was being featured. Adrian and Alan were there dispensing samples. I had a wonderful visit and tasted some great flavors. First of all was Creole Cream Cheese. Nice and tart with small pieces of curd in the ice cream. Next three are some new flavors. First up was New Orleans Nectar. The color was perfect. The taste was of cream soda with a strong undertone of almond. Best of all it was not too sweet. Smooth and creamy. Would be perfect in a float (Dr Pepper I think). Next came Cherries Jubilee. Cherries soaked in brandy and Grand Marnier then chopped and distribute though out a cherry ice cream with some Grand Marnier tossed in. Think Cherries Garcia for adults. It had a wonderful up front cherry flavor with a nice backnote of orange. Last and but not least Cajun Spiced New Orleans Rum and Raisin. It proved my favorite. They soak the raisins in New Orleans Rum and they go whole into a Cayenne Pepper spiked vanilla. I really liked this not too sweet ice cream with the rum punch and warm spicy finish. I do not think I would get tired of eating it. I was telling Adrian how I have quite eating Ben & Jerry and Blue Bell because they seem to have increased overrun (a term for incorporating air into the ice cream supposedly to make more creamy but in my opinion just to stretch the product to make more money). After eating a spoonful of their product it feels like I took a bite of air. Not so with New Orleans Ice Cream. Every bite is substantial (dense and creamy) with lots of flavor. It tastes and feels like real ice cream. Here is a link to their website
