I am in need of a dinner suggestion

Post by BTG »

for tomorrow night.
Here is the dealio. Tomorrow is my ten year anniversary. :)
We are looking to do something somewhat low key and not expensive(meaning around $75) at around 8:00 tomorrow night.

I don't want a place that is chaotic or where I will have to wait in line for 30 minutes or longer, so a reservation kind of place may be required. If ever there was a time where food might not be the most important factor for me, this may be it. Due to a medical issue, my wife can't taste things all that well now and she isn't drinking either, so I am looking for atmosphere.

The real celebration will be in Sandestin next weekend, but I hope I can somehow please the wife somewhat with this little dinner tomorrow night as well.

If by atmosphere you're looking for romantic or at least cozy, I like Tommy's. (call for a reservation and ask for a table IN THE FRONT room along the windows)

MiLa might work as well...they have some nice booths.

and of course LaBoca or RioMar deserve some consideration.

Have a great time!

I'm going to suggest something really different. Probably a place no one thinks of.

Have you ever been to Cote Sud?

All of my women friends love this place as it is a little slice of something cozy & romantic. It's dark & not your usual place.

We often celebrate birthdays here. And they have a nice onion soup which is comforting (which she might like since she can't taste much) as well as soup du jour. There's not much fuss here at all, it's casual enough for just dinner on any night, but also romantic enough for a anniversary. Very low key.

In fact, we've been celebrating our anniversary for about 2 weeks now and this was one of our first stops. It's extremely reasonable, unassuming & you can have a nice quiet dinner without anyone hovering over you. That night we had a charcuterie plate, hangar steak with frites and poached pear with ice cream for dessert. We both agreed that it was exactly what we wanted that night and we left very happy.

They were honored we were celebrating our anniversary with them. I don't think they take reservations & it's cash only. Maybe if you call & speak with Olivier & tell him it's your anniversary, he'll save a table for you.

I like Cafe Degas too. There's something about the French & birthdays & anniversaries that just gets me every time.

Have a great anniversary & hope your wife's feeling better soon!

I don't understand this comment at all...

I remember when the building that current houses crepe nanou was a toy store (or maybe it was antiques), but that was 30 years ago. Cafe Degas has always been on Esplanade, as far as I know, but my knowledge of that area doesn't go nearly as far back.

When I was in highschool in the french club we ate at where the current location of Cafe Degas is....at the time it was called "Crepe Nanou" whether it is the same owners or not of the current uptown location I don't know. It was around 1985/86......
