Red Beans and Rice

Post by kcdixiecat »

Ok, I have a question and I realize that I could google this..but just out of curiousity. Why is it a tradition to have red beans and rice on Mondays?

Wash day. Leftover ham from Sunday dinner goes into pot of red beans that can simmer largely unattended whilst doing laundry.

No kidding?

I always heard it was because the Barber was off on Monday, and he would come over to momma's for fun and games. Momma would put on a pot of beans so she would have time to entertain the dude in the Perry Como sweater without too many interuptions while the pot of beans were simmering. By 3:00, Perry was done, mom could get herself together before the kiddo's got home from school, and have everything ready before Pops got home from work.

Laundry? Wow! Thanks...I needed that!

Now White Beans were on Wednesday. I think that was the day that the nice police officer was off...

No problemo, C!

Just remember...whatever type of bean you are cooking to ALWAYS count your beans. The maximum number to prepare for a pot of Red Beans, White Beans, or any Bean de` Jour is 239. Be very careful on your count, and I suggest you double check. If you are off on the count by just one tiny bean they can then become... too farty!

Woah! Pass the Beano please! I just made a pot and forgot to count!

I knew I left something out of my beans the other day. I forgot to count, it was later that i figured out that there was one too many beans in that pot. Two-farty
