Wow....what a read. What a pathetic broad. (Justine/Jo)
Thanks, Nanette! I think I probably owe Stephen King some credit for that line. He's well-known for horror, but very underrated when it comes to quality insults.
More drama may or may not follow; it's really up to Evan and Ed. They can pay Chris what they owe him, shut up about us, and never hear from us again, which would be the smart choice ... or they can keep being wetbrained fuckups. I guess we'll see.
I've always been a fan of Chef Chris' food, but found myself hardpressed to get anyone to go to the Delachaise with me with any frequency.
My MFDC especially, since we're late nighters and always looking for something good past 9, 10, 11pm in that general area on a weekly basis.
I can't tell you how many times I recommended Delachaise only to get it shot down . . . "I'd love to eat Chef Chris' food . . . but there's no way I'm going to Delachaise" would be the frequent reply. I managed to get my way only every so often and not quite enough to my liking.
This past Monday night we both worked very late & MFDC suggested Delachaise for dinner. Damn! I had to break the news to him that Chris was no longer there (he loved Chris' personality). He looked at me in shock & with a wave of his hand said, "Oh! Ok, well no point in going then!"
Chef Chris was the only reason we went to the Delachaise.
Some of the less endearing qualities of the place got somewhat erased because of Chris' presence. And of course, I was willing to jump through the hoops for Chris' food & vibe.
Let's make sure everyone here keeps each other posted when the word breaks out! Cooking classes too!

I can't tell you how many times I heard that same response. Hell, I said it plenty of times myself. Never mind the obnoxious drinking crowd; the seating at the Delachaise is hideously uncomfortable even if you're not an old cripple like me, and while I'm not anti-smoking, I don't want cigarette smoke blowing in my face while I'm trying to eat. I took out-of-town friends there a few times so they could experience what Chris was doing, but if Chris really wanted me to try a particular dish, I'd usually just go sit on the kitchen steps and eat it.
Hey Doc B it's nice to see your smiling face! As soon as I told sweetie that Chris had left he had the same reaction everyone else did. Now I must say that even though we are both smokers (actually hubby just quit), when you are trying to dine in a smoke filled bar it's not pleasant. I read Chris' blog post regarding the Country Club dinner. I wish we could have gone but it was a work-nite. We cannot wait for Chris' next adventure and bet your ass we'll be there. Hopefully the next place will have actual staff so he won't have to take orders and bus tables as well as do his thang. Please pass all our thoughts along to Chris or better yet show him the thread.
Mrs. Fury, don't worry, I have kept Chris up-to-date on all the praise for him and drama concerning his former place of employment. He is amused by the drama but also saddened by it, since there was absolutely no need for things to turn out this way.
The Delachaise may or may not continue to succeed as a trendy bar. As a food venue, I think it's probably toast. Both Chris and I regret that, as the current chef (Chris' former sous chef, R.J. Tsarov) is a great guy and a talented cook, but when you work for douchebags, you tend to get strawberry-scented foam on you.

As you know, he was there for the Spirited dinner Thursday night. From what I understand they ordered so much food and had so much fun that they are extending Chef Chris's stay all weekend. He was there for a private party last night, that from all accounts, was kick ass and the food was fantastic, got better every course.
So anyway, there's a Freaky Tiki menu this weekend. I had the shrimp dish for lunch today, and it was yummy.
