What are you cooking for Tgiving?

JAG and I won't be. We are going to run the Turkey Day race and then to the Fairgrounds.

I am definitely eating a funnel cake at some point.

Not cooking for the first time in MANYyears.... A visit to Slidell to see Dom's ma in the nursing home, then eating at Copelands. (Which I haven't been to in probably 15 years.... at least.

Not cooking here either. Going to visit mother. We will have some sort of smoked or grilled meat and fixins. Step-dad is a fabulous smoke/griller. Just about every picture I have of the man is him by the bbq holding a spatula.

I'll go to neighbors around 8 and watch him fry about 8 birds. Start with 5 lbs of bacon fried in the oil, then the first turkey fried will be the sacrificial breakfast bird, and that breakfast taste will be about it for my TG bird. We have at least 4 large bottles of of Chapagne for Mimosas, then will start pouring the Zing-Zang BM's. The group gets larger every year.

Wednesday, I will shop the only store in GNO area without a line...Hong Kong Market. Pick up 3 Lobsters, some new potatoes. Already bought a stalk of fresh Brussel Sprouts from Rouse. Those things are great! Getting a sack of oysters being fished out of Point a la Hache on Tues. I know they are very large, just not sure about the saltiness yet. Not sure how many will get cooked...

Extended family get-together. Pot luck. My contribution is rice dressing and pork rilletes.

My contributions to the family feast include yeast rolls & homemade ritz crackers (to go with my mother's cheese log).

Sounds like a great way to start of Thangsgiving Day. And it also sounds like you are at my house. We do almost the exact same cooking of turkeys & bacon, & champagne also.

I start with the Turkey Day Race as well, which is a great way to get out of the house and avoid being pressed into sous chef duty. A few beers at the post-race party, then to in-law's for a whole bunch of goodies that, again, I don't have to cook. My contribution is the wine: this year a Domaine Wachau Gruner Veltliner and a Ridge Three Valleys blend.

Going to my sister's in Vicksburg. I just have to pick the Doberge cake from Maurice's on the way out of town tomorrow. We'll have turkey, honey-baked ham (home cooked), cornbread dressing, potato salad, snap bean casserole, some other veggies, raw veggie tray and a gazillion desserts.
And Friday, my sisters will go off to work and I'll have the whole house, the three wiener dogs, my laptop and a comfy couch to doze on all day. Then off to the casino that night.
