A "touch" of New Orleans has arrived in Reno - JAZZ - A Louisiana Kitchen. It is adjacent to the new Scheels Sporting Goods Emporium in the Reno suburb of Sparks. I enjoyed lunch there today, including:
a dozen Raw Oysters (50¢ each on Thursdays), cold and delicious.
a bowl of Gumbo ($4.99), tasty - a little spicy.
a plate of Fried Catfish ($6.49), served with Cajun Coleslaw and Hushpuppies, not great/not bad, coleslaw was out standing.
Small chain with only 5 locations. Anyone else been in one?
I forgot to mention, they have Abita beer as well. Five types in bottles, and Turbodog "on tap". Now I know where Turbodog got his "handle".
Finally, the last item on the menu, at the bottom of the "Extras", is:
All-You-Can-Eat Hushpuppies...................$189.00
Then in fine print it says (includes a bottle of Dom Perignon).

There are a couple of them in Kansas City, MO. Great restaurants and pretty authentic cuisine. Same menu in KC! The fine print always brings a chuckle. I have to say that their beignets are AMAZING. They serve them with chantilly cream. YUMMY stuff.
Re: JAZZ - A Louisiana Kitchen
Lunch was so good on Thursday, I (we) went back for dinner Friday night. Took my visiting daughter (#1 from Sacramento), and enjoyed both the dinner and the live jazz band playing.
Daughter had a pair of Cajun Bloody Marys, a dozen raw ersters, house salad, and Scallops & Shrimp Lafayette in a great cheesy sauce served with dirty rice.
I had an Abita Purple Haze and a Turbodog Draft, a mixed apps platter, and Scallops & Shrimp Pontchartrain also in another great white not-cheesy sauce, served with a mound of Jambalaya rice. The sauces are fantastic in this place.
About as close to NOLA as you can get while still in Reno. Sorry, I forgot the camera to provide you with pictures.

We found they're about as close to authentic as you're gonna get and not be in New Orleans. This was one of our favorite restaurants in Kansas City.

Bottled Purple Haze doesn't do the beer justice. And I don't imagine you can get it on tap anywhere outside of the gulf coast. At least they have a good Abita selection.
