This festival gets better and better. I may have six meals down there this weekend.

Odd - just looking at the list on Times Pic website http://blog.nola.com/festivals/2009/04/jazz_brunch_menu_released_for.html

They DO list the Rib Room and its Prime Rib sammich - at the Harrah's Stage. Don't know why the lists differ, but they do. Hopefully......

NAME DROPPING ALERT

I know the chef. Let me ask. Back soon.

He's good! He got back to me before the [EDIT] button was turned off.

Rib Room will NOT be at the fest this year. Sorry to deliver bad news.
He suggested that if you need to get out of the evirons (heat, rain, snow) visit them at the Touche bar or, of course, the Rib Room. Touche is adjacent to the Omni on Royal Street.

POO!!!! I am going to have to go find them at the Touche. I hate that there is wrong info out there. They have Melissa Andersson playing on one site and she is not listed on the one I printed out (also the one not listing Rib Room). That is irritating.

I just had this. Excellent pork cheeks. The dirty rice was OK but a little too much liver for my tastes. Still, an excellent dish for $5.

I also had the slaw and pork tacos from Juan's. Great at $3. And I split a cochon de lait poboy from Love at first bite. It was good but I'm not a fan of honey mustard and that's what I think I tasted.

Went to Dickie Brennan's Bourbon House for a few Rip Van Winkle's and stepped into an oyster shucking contest (meaning I was a spectator). The employees went against each other and the winner will represent them tomorrow at 12:15 at the Mint.

Leo was out of control. They were supposed to shuck 2 dozen and yell when they reached that point. When someone yelled, Leo already had 29...he didn't feel like counting and knew he would win. He's won the overall contest a few times.

Best part was that they comped the oysters to everyone watching....and kept shucking until you couldn't eat anymore. Damn I'm full....

Great afternoon.

We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Stopped by Touche's and spoke with Anthony Spizale, rib room executive chef. He told me why they aren't in FFQ. Basically, his restaurant and bar is booked up and he'd be leaving $35 entrees customers at his restaurant to serve $5 sandwiches at a loss. He sells the same sandwich at Touche for $12 and in the Rib Room for $19.....all day.

Anthony's the man. He has helped me out many times this past year.
Looking forward to his NOWFE dinner.

That doesn't wash. Ain't no one buying that pistolette for $19 "all day". If he sold two in one day, he would probably **** a gold brick! No one lines up at Touche` for sandwiches either. That's just his BS line. Granted, it was a bitch for them to supply the hoards at the booth (I've watched them running the meat for the last 5 years), but that is the real reason they don't want to do it...it is a bitch! Not the few $35 entree people left unattended, which wouldn't be the case unless they are still short staffed in the dining room. When you do these events, you just rotate your staff, and hire on extras to run the food over. And to have a few extra staff hustling the meat over is no big deal...unless you just don't want to do it. They had to cook tons of meat to supply the booths. It was just too much work. And that is the bottom line...he just doesn't want to do it, which is fine, and a business decision, and understandable. There was no "loss" on the sale of the sandwiches. They would not have been doing it for years at a loss. There may not be any/much profit, other than goodwill. It is his/their choice. No problem.

F' em! Just go to the Tujague's stand right inside the main gate at Jackson Sq. You can get the greatest Brisket for only $4. I really enjoy it much more than the Rib Room's fare. Plus, you can give the extra buck you save as a tip to help the musicians.
