Great news for Bayou St. John
Great news for Bayou St. John
I got the best news for my part of town Monday. The original owners of Sante Fe are opening up at the old Gabbrielle location.....complete with the old lady from Mississippi's tamales. (I never thought I would taste them again, much less their killer Margaritas) I had thought that it would be the "new" Sante Fe, because the same people owned La Vita and Sante Fe. I went to the new one only once. It was sooooo bad. I think they had a fire in the location on Frenchman, so it made sense to me they would just move to their other property, but NO...I was at Terranova Monday buying sausage and saw some activity across the street, so I stuck my head in and recoginzed the guy from the original one. He confirmend that they were opening in a week or two, definately before Jfest. This really is great news for my neighborhood, just adding to the already growing number of solid places to eat in Mid City and Bayou St. John.

Wow. This sounds like great news for the 'hood. I don't think I ever went to the original Santa Fe, but I know a lot of people were quite passionate about it.
When I read that Santa Fe was opening in the Gabrielle/La Vita location, I assumed it would be the "in name only" Santa Fe that the Angeli/Vita/Felini's group operated after Katrina.
That's a terrific location and it deserves a great restaurant.

I was a big fan of Santa Fe in the late 90s but I thought they were headed downhill well before Katrina.
