On the Beer Front

Post by Blue Cross Sux »

First of all, a quick note on Abita's new seasonal Red Ale. It's been a favorite of mine for some time, although last year's batch was a bit of a disappointment. But, if my first two six packs are any indication, it's a return to prominence. Smooth, well-balanced, with a good finish. Check it out.

In other news, Nola Brewing is finally releasing their long-awaited beers. I first tried their brews during the WYES Beer Fest, and I thought they were in the top 10 if not the top 5 of the hundred or so offered. They should have a brown and a golden in pubs starting this Friday. So far the bars include both Bulldogs, Lager's and a few other places. A great new addition to the brew scene. Very good news. We did a beer tasting at Stein's. Peter, the brewmaster for Nola Brewing, brought some of his home brew which I thought was better than any of the commercial beer we drank that night.

We had some at the Stein's anniversary party on Sunday. Really good stuff. The blonde is very clean and crisp. The brown has a little more complexity to it and a deep flavor. Both beers are very well crafted and I suspect will do extremely well as the word gets out.
