Chinese Crawfish

Post by flyinbayou »

I had the displeasure of eating some of these last week. We were in the Broadmoor area last week and stopped in C & A's seafood on South Jeff Davis before heading to the park and bought a four pounds to snack on. ($3.69/lb)
While they were spicy the heat was not from cayenne. My dc said it tasted like chili oil. They were also a bit rubbery. I called them and asked where they were getting their crawfish. "California" was the response.
I conveyed the story to a brother of mine whose company is based in California. He called me back after speaking to one of his co-workers and told me that the crawfish are imported into California from China before being shipped here. True or not, I don't know. But the texture and taste were off-putting enough not to buy them there anymore.

FWIW, I bought some boiled from Dennis' Seafood today (St. Martin's Parish) and they were nicely sized and tasty. $3.49/lb
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.
