Re: Northern New England and Quebec

Thanks to all for the many suggestions, y'all are great! JAG, I had previously archived some of your Maine recommendations from years past. Hope we can get there - there is never enough time for everything I want to do.

Northern New England and Quebec

I am looking at heading up East next month for some R&R. The weather was so nice on Nova Scotia last August that we are going in that direction again, just a little further west. Will fly into Boston and head to Montreal, maybe hit Quebec City and back down through Maine to Boston, depending on ...

Re: Domenica for a birthday?

Thanks for the replies. I think we'll try out hungryone's acoustics strategy and roll the dice on Domenica.

Domenica for a birthday?

My mom has a birthday next week and I have been giving some thought to taking her to Domenica. She hasn't seen the hotel renovation and was interested in that. Plus, the last time she celebrated her birthday at the Roosevelt was 1931! But in reading the reviews here, it sounds like the noise factor ...

Re: Need your insights

A lot of us here like La Boca for steaks. It can be pretty noisy, though, which I find is a bit irritating for a special occasion. Emeril's Delmonico also does really nice steaks and has a broader menu. Lots of good places for steak here.

Re: How Lucky We Are

Early in my career, I spent a couple of years working various jobs all over the country. I learned very early on never to take NOLA cuisine for granted. Ever had to spend two months eating out in Fargo, ND? You'll throw yourself in the chipper for sure. Now you would expect limited dining in Fargo, ...

Re: Auto Insurance Help

If you're eligible for USAA, definitely check them out. Eligibility rules have changed in the past year so it's worth looking into even if you were previously ineligible. Very good service, competitive rates. Great to deal with after our losses in Katrina and Ivan.

orange beach visit

Just back from a week at the beach in Perdido/Orange Beach. Small tar balls were present on the beach on the Gulf side, but not very extensive in our area. The Gulf water actually looked completely clear of junk. The water on the north side of Perdido between the Key and Ono Island seemed fine. Very...

Re: Jacques Imo's

I am probably the only person on this board who has never been to Jacques-Imo's. I post on a travel board from time to time as well and this place gets within the top 3 tourist inquiries consistently, so I've never felt compelled to go. The herd mentality is a fascinating aspect of human behavior to...

Re: JAG takes Bam on 4 hour sausage odyssey

Wszystkiego Najlepszego, JAG! Eat some Polish sausage for me. I used to order my Mardi Gras brats from Meyer's Deli on N. Lincoln Ave. Meyer's is no more, but the old store space has been taken over by Gene's, which gets very good reviews on average. Gene's first, much older location is on Belmont. ...
