Dining in Spain and France
I got to France a few days ago. Have been in Biarritz in Southern part for a couple of days. Also up in small villages in the Pyranese. Made it to Pamplona for the Fiesta de San Fermin (running of the bulls) on Sunday just in time for the bullfights, then to see the Spanish win the world cup. An ama...

Re: JAG's Boyfriend is taking her to San Francisco
I have eaten at the Mina restaurant at the MGM Grand and was totally unimpressed to the point that I probably wouldn't go to Aqua if I was given a free gift certificate. Danko intrigues me. Mainly because I don't know much about him. Has anyone been to the Plumpjack Cafe? I am looking at it for a l...

Re: JAG's Boyfriend is taking her to San Francisco
I've not been in a while, but I assume it is still there. The Hong Kong Flower Lounge just off the Millbrae exit, (2 exits away from the city) was once the generally considered best place for dim sum in the area. Not being in the city, it is not mentioned , and pretty much has a local following. The...

Re: Need your insights
I actually think Rio Mar is way louder than La Boca. You can actually have pleasant dinner conversation at La Boca where I find Rio Mar to be extreemely loud. Ask for a table by the front window at La Boca when you make your reservation and you'll have a quieter space. The hanger at Rio Mar is way ...

I go to the asian market on Williams Blvd, just past Harbor Seafood on the same side of the street. The front (closest to the street) is a little restaurant, farther back is the asian market. They have them for sure, along with lots of other hard to find items.

Re: Need your insights
I agree with Bam...Hangar steaks are the most interesting steaks to have. If you are a filet person, you are in for a very pleasant surprise. There is more "grain" to the cut, and you have to do a bit more chewing, but the flavor that comes from that chewing is worth it. I also think that ...

Re: strange night at A Mano
So I called a Mano to ask - they do, indeed have a peppermill. It is not offered unless the diner asks. They were, in fact, aware of this thread, and somewhat baffled, as they have no issue with providing pepper when it is requested. Now if I could only convince them to offer hot tea ... Very inter...

Re: $8 Oysters @ Harbor Seafood
another really great little mom and pop right in that area is Norma's sweet shop. At the red light in front of Harbor Seafood (coming off 10), take a right, then a left. Halfway up the block on the left. A true hidden gem. The cuban sandwiches are the best in town. And the various pastries are made ...

Re: Last Minute Recs for Bay St. Louis, Gulfport Area
I know it won't do any good to live in the past, but if Waveland is your centerpoint, too bad Armand's is long gone. It was pretty much the best restaurant in that area.I miss it as much as most any restaurant that has gone by the wayside. Armand was the original chef at Gautreau's many many years a...

Re: strange night at A Mano
Adolfo's not the chef at A Mano.....Joshua Smith is. I did not mean to imply that Adolfo was the person that made the statement. I've known him far too long, and can't believe he subscribes to this theory. I will definately ask him about this the next time I run into him. I know Joshua is the chef ...
