Re: Old Merairie Bistro

I can't say that I'll be motivated to try a place offering "progressive comfort food".....translates to me as "high profit margin starch requiring little technical expertise to prepare". Am I a curmudgeon? (Yes.) But seriously, these days, I'm not visiting restaurants offering t...

Yes, thanks. I like pretty much anything Thai, and I've never heard of that. :thumb:

Re: Promised Review of El Mesquite Grill

Interestingly, one of the only "restaurants" that I've seen do nachos in the described manner (individual chips/beans/cheese/peppers) is Chili's. They're not particularly good, but they are that style. Maybe that underscores the point about the authenticity of nachos - I don't know. Though...

Re: Parkway

Group: I tried having lunch at Parkway today. It's Wednesday and the special is the best Cuban sandwich in town IMHO. Unfortunately, they have abolished all specials and gotten rid of the good Chicago hot dogs as well. The bartender told me "we're so busy now that we don't need to run specials...

Re: New Orleans Leads the Nation in Roofers turned Restauranteurs

As to Skip Bayless, my primary observation would be that he has done the same thing Mexicans living North of the border have done for generations in Texas, California, New Mexico, and Arizona. Rick Bayless. Skip Bayless is a hack sportswriter. (and I've been to Topolobampo and found it excellent). ...

Re: Heads up on Jazzfest beer. $5 a can this year...

There seemed to be a larger than normal amount of fest-goers that smuggled booze in. I suspect that number will grow proportionately with the price of beer. I didn't see a beer line longer than 3 or 4 people the whole weekend. I think $5/$6 may finally be more than that market can reasonably bear.

How's that pissing in the wind going for ya?
They have Pilsner Urquell on tap.

Re: Jazz Fest food -- the good, the bad, the usual?

Ya Ka Mein is one of my favorites. I will have it at least once each weekend, if not each day. I see no reason to eat raw oysters or boiled crawfish at the Fest.

I am also a fan of the Dibbe (steak pita) from the international booths (I forget which one).
