Re: Gershwin Prize event at White House: A really big night for Sir Paul McCartney

Poor guy, he's been worried sick and "enraged" about the oil and just needed a chance to chill with Sir Paul. Too bad they didn't sing "Taxman", which would have been more appropriate.

Re: Carville Visit

Cool place, particularly if you're into the history of medicine. Also, the National Guard runs a "boot camp" next door. I thought this was a post about James. A couple of months ago, he came in for breakfast very early one Saturday at Coulis on Prytania while I was there. Ever the people's...

Re: Gusto

I dunno, think I may have to go with Suzy on this one. Just doesn't sound good to me. If I'm paying $$ to park and see the only local run of some art film, I don't want someone spilling their cabernet down my back. Re: Fried Chicken

I remember going to Eddie's one night when I first moved here around 25 years ago. The main thing I remember was thinking "you know, I probably don't belong in this neighborhood". I had the fried chicken and the folks couldn't have been nicer to a skinny white kid (I am not skinny after 25...

What, in the world, is a Western toilet? The kind we use, that you can sit down on, as opposed to an Asian pit toilet, i.e., "squat and drop". Put it on your bucket list, Jeeves! ---------- Post added at 06:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:38 PM ---------- Thank you for your advic...

Re: Learning Chinese

Tulane has Chinese classes, you can probably pay to audit the class. You may be able to find someone willing to tutor you, too. I've done that in the past because it fits my learning style. You could inquire at Tulane's Dept. of Asian Studies or even a high school teacher like Kathy Li at Newman. So...

Re: Fried Chicken

Mandina's does very good fried chicken. You'll have to wait on it, but it's worth the wait. Neyeow's on N. Jeff Davis also has pretty good chicken.

Re: Martin's Uptown

They are moving right along, another house gone today. Chef David was out surveying things yesterday. I wish they'd get rid of the rest of the blighted houses in the neighborhood while they're at it, but that should come soon enough.
