Re: Vintage Kitchen Appliances

Duke, a few years ago Ronco or somesuch came out with a Baconer type device, but it was for the microwave. My kids insisted on buying one, and they used it quite a bit as they didn't like the mess or potential grease pops of stove top bacon frying. It's stuffed in a cabinet somewhere. I ...

Re: Vintage Kitchen Appliances

I have a bunch of old mixing bowls and other stuff that belonged to my grandmother, so they are roughly 1920s/30s vintage. My sister retains all the other stuff my mom had when she died, like the fondue stuff and the other 1950s/60s things. ...but the thing I'd really like to find is a 1970s inventi...

Re: Beer Class at Stein's

I need to do this -- and Monday is one of the days I don't have to close my place, so the timing should work well. And I can walk home if need be. Thanks for the reminder.

Re: Lunch at J'Anita's

Thanks for the nice words. I would have responded over on TOB but they won't let me log in anymore for whatever reason. Anyway, the bearded guy who complimented your hat was me. The taciturn server was Jennifer, who is not a lesbian (she is married) but has roomed with one. Her manner is not aloof b...

Re: Lunch at J'Anita's

get ready for the smith family for breakfast tomorrow, screaming kids in tow and all..... Advisedly, the earlier the better. We tend to jam up after 10am or so on the weekends. Our small kitchen prohibits offering breakfast and lunch at the same time, so sometimes we simply have to close for 30 min...

Re: The Palm in Atlanta

I have been to Palm locations in both FL and in DC. Both were excellent, but they seem to have a problem with side dishes. Not that the sides are bad (they're excellent), but they don't seem to know what a "side" portion is. I don't want a whole entire damn plate of a side item. I just wan...

Re: Restaurant that you don't like that everyone else loves

Every BBQ place in the city (I can't help it; I was ruined for any other BBQ by spending time in North Carolina ... and please God, don't try to tell me The Joint serves NC-style BBQ. They don't.) I think I can be honest in this forum without offending anyone or coming off as an apologist or a self...

Re: Making love (or a good meal) out of nothing at all

The absolute best meals are made up of What's Just There. The only problem with this is that everyone demands you make it again and you either don't have the same stuff or you can't remember just how you made it last time. ...but each time is a new challenge and a new opportunity, right? It's the mo...
