Re: Eastern St. Tammany Dayride

OK, the cat sh*t in the corner wasn't even hearsay. :p But I remember hearing years back (c.25?) that the castle was built by a guy from da parish, who was a contracter. And, as my cloudy mind remembers, he died not too long aftwards of cancer. And then there was Rapunzel, or was it Laquita???.... OC

Re: Eastern St. Tammany Dayride

Thanks Mrs. Fury and Jeeves for the pics.

It's my understanding that the guy that built the "round castle" on Hwy. 11 was from Chalmette. He had a bunch of cats, and wanted to live some place where they couldn't crap in the corner:crap::o

Re: Can Openers

I bought a Martha Stewart hand-held manual can opener at K-Mart two years ago. Around $15 (?). Heavy duty and well made. Works great.

Re: Marinated Flank Steak

Flank steak has a very coarse grain. As L-N-S stated, it should be cut on a bias. AND it should be cut across the grain of the meat, least it will be chewy and stringy.

Re: Georgia Peaches

The EPA requires agricultural fields to post warnings, especially for the safety of the field workers, when crops are treated with pesticides. These signage periods are for a short period of time, usually a few hours. As an example, see Sec. 6776, b-1 below for the "skull and crossbones." ...

Sammy's Food Service Report

I had lunch at Sammy’s Food Service yesterday (Whatever “Food Service” means). It’s on Elysian Fields Ave. between the I-610 and the overpass. It looked like about half of the customers were eating in and half were taking orders to go. I got the half and half fried shrimp and fried oysters. It came ...

Foolproof; but be sure that you tell the insurance company that your intent was to get rid of the ants and not to burn down the house.:)

Re: How to get rid of ants around the sink?

Bdavid mentioned that these might be "sugar ants." There are numerous common names for small household ants; little black ants, crazy ants, etc. Many of these names are local and have little to do with the actual scientific names of the ants in question. Morphological identification by a G...

Re: Best American Band of all time

I'd put Chicago up there. I'd also put The Who and Yes up there too, but they're from the wrong side of the ocean.

And if you want to go back a ways, I like Armstrong's Hot Five and Hot Seven in the late '20s.
