"vinted"

Post by bdavid »

on the back label of a 2006 Mondavi private selection zin. (I can't for the life of me remember buying this bottle, but I must have because there it was in the rack this evening. It was pretty good, too.). It's a term I have never heard before. Is it a real word?

Occasionally seen on labels, this phrase has no legal or established significance. In general, it means "made by." See also BOTTLED BY; ESTATE BOTTLED; GROWN, PRODUCED, AND BOTTLED BY; MADE AND BOTTLED BY; PRODUCED AND BOTTLED BY.

And to take it one step further, from the Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines,
VINTED BY - A pleasant-sounding but meaningless phrase that may be used on wine labels even when the named winery had no more involvement with the wine than purchasing it in bulk from another winery and bottling it upon arrival.
From that definition, I'd say the term meaningless is spot on.
Forget the apple - a café au lait a day keeps the doctor away!

That's exactly right - pretentious. The best description of "vinted".
As John Wayne once said: "Life's tough. It's even tougher if you're stupid."
