I think the best I ever had was out in Bay St. Louis, pre-K, at a BBQ joint named WIlliam's.

Old fashioned dusted with no batter, fried in an iron skillet, grease-free, tender and flavourful.

I have never been a good cooker of fried chicken myself. Maybe its a lack of practice. It shouldn't be that hard. But when you run across one of those old ladies who know how to cook it the old fashioned way, you realize what a difference there is between OK and truly awesome.
