I had heard many years ago that there existed an out-of-print album of jazz standards featuring the vocals of Chaka Khan. Recently, I searched Amazon to find the album had indeed been re-issued by Rhino Records-- in 2003! Originally produced in 1982 by drummer Lenny White, it also features Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson, Chick Corea and Stanley Clarke. According to the liner notes, the recording sessions lasted a mere five days (two days according to an interview with the artists included on the CD), with each song being rehearsed with a run-through before the record button was pressed. Within the same time period, an instrumental version of the album was simultaneously produced.
