The Roosevelt $38 parking?
The Roosevelt $38 parking?
I haven't stayed at a hotel downtown since right after Katrina when they were just grateful to have you there. My birthday is Monday so some friends and I were going to the Sazerac for drinks Friday and I thought I'd go on and stay at The Roosevelt two nights. The cheapests room is $179 + 13% tax which I thought was reasonable. Then I started looking at the fine print and it's $38 per day to park and $12.95 per day for internet access. I can remember paying $17 per day for parking but 38? And I've just gotten to where I won't even stay at a hotel that doesn't have free wireless access. My job requires me to be able to log in at a moment's notice so I'm not running down to a lobby at 2 a.m. to get access.
I guess I'll just have my birthday drink there (parked elsewhere) and find somewhere else to stay unless they have all jacked up their prices like that.

Yeah, the parking price at some of the downtown hotels is really a thorn in my side also.
Re: The Roosevelt $38 parking?
It's odd to me that you usually have to pay for internet access in higher end hotels and in the lower end properties you do not. For example, hampton and hilton garden inn both have free access as the rule, while Hilton name brand properties do not. (The Roosevelt is now a Hilton property, BTW).
Re: The Roosevelt $38 parking?
That irks me too. Not only that, you often get free bottled water in the lower end places, whilst a bottle will set you back $4-$6 in the posher ones, even if you have status in their programmes.buzd wrote:It's odd to me that you usually have to pay for internet access in higher end hotels and in the lower end properties you do not. That's horrible, Laura! Honestly.... even if I were a zillionaire, I don't think that I could fork over that kind of money for parking. What a pisser.

Laura, their online special rate is from $139

if you want to stay there overnight, there are other surface lots and garages in the immediate area that may be less expensive.
and maybe for your BDay, your job will get you a cellular card for your laptop!
Happy Bday! Cheers!

Many higher end hotels are frequented by business people that just "expense" the extras and/or by people that truly do not care how much anything is.buzd wrote:It's odd to me that you usually have to pay for internet access in higher end hotels and in the lower end properties you do not. The mid to lower tier hotels are often used for personal reasons, hence the enticement with free amenities.
Or, so I've been told.
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.

That'll be the day. They don't even give us the coupon for free lunch on our birthday any more.edible complex wrote:Laura, their online special rate is from $139

The $139 rooms aren't availiable this weekend (imagine that). I did resolve my problem though. Someone reminded me that I have a rewards card for the casino. I logged on and it had special offers but those weren't available either. I was looking around the site though and one link was "MyTR". On that, apparently I had enough to get a comp'd night at the Wyndham Riverfront. Their parking is $25 but if I park at the casiono and put 30 minutes of play on my card, I get free parking. I'll probably hit the casino again before I leave so that works out just fine.
We're going to The Sazerac for drinks around 8 and then who ever wants can walk on over to the casino for gambling.

DH has been at a conference at the Marriot this week. Parking is $30/day. Really sucks, even if it is expensed.
