It is SO hot; I find myself reluctant to use the stove and heat up the house, plus the idea of something cool and refreshing is appealing. I have been making smoothies this week in lieu of regular meals. I am getting a little bored with my concoction of soy milk, banana, strawberries and pineapple juice. Do any of you have any good recipes to recommend? I have some nice ripe cherries in the fridge - any suggestions? Odd combos are completely acceptable….
Thanks,
Jen

Crrrot juice and fresh ginger with a little apple juice goes together amazingly well.

Re: Smoothies at home
I make my son a smoothie almost every day. It's a very healthy & quick breakfast. Anyway, the recipe I use as my "starting point" is: 1/4 cup frozen blueberries, 1/2 cup juice (he likes this organic Strawberry Banana stuff best, but mango or something similar is also really good), 1 banana, 1 yogurt (whatever flavor--peach is really good), & some honey. Also, if I have fresh fruit--especially if it's getting too soft--I'll toss that in there as well.

Freezing really ripe, peeled bananas in a zip lock works great for making smoothies a nice thick consistency without diluting the flavor. It is naturally sweet that way.
Other frozen fruit is good too.

Re: Smoothies at home
I make smoothies almost every day and am also always on the lookout for something to make them even better.
Lately, I've been using a mixture of berries and nectarines, kefir (either the blackberry or peach) and a little agave nectar. Very good!

I know I've posted this before on tob... but often my husband and I have a fruit shake for breakfast, that was conceived by a nutritionist. But trust me, it's delicious, and it 'sticks' with you all day.
One cup of cranberry juice/wild cherry juice (organic)
One scoop of Protien Whey Powder, vanilla flavored
One handful of berries
One ripe peach
(substitute any two fresh fruits for those, what ever is on hand)
One pack of Stevia (non-chemical non sugar sweetner)
One small container of yogurt
A couple of tablespoons of flax seed oil.
Blend.
Honestly, it's wonderful!
