Star Trek

Post by dragongrrl »

No trekkers here? I'm going to try going this weekend. But I'm only interested in the IMAX experience so I might have to wait. Since I'm a LOOOOOOOONG time Trek fan/TOS devotee, I'm nervous that they won't get it right. The fan whispers say it does. I'm figuring the whispers will become roars after this weekend.

Critics seem to say lots of fun but not much substance. Substance (or the attempt at it at least) was the core of Star Trek. Creators say this one is the hook and the second one will tackle the substance. So I guess I'll go see the hook. Hard to pass up any Star Trek on IMAX.

Anyone else?

I've read about the lack of substance as well, but let's not forget that, with all its spectacle, 1979's ST:TMP was essentially the big screen, big special effects version of the ST:TOS episode "The Changeling". Rodenberry's moral subtext or not, I'm there.

I liked the alternate title for that movie. Star Trek: The Motionless Picture.

Very true and then Wrath was a sequel to another episode. Well I'm going too. I haven't been to a movie in forever.
