NYT Article on how the Obama Economy is Affecting the Wine Industry

Post by bam bam »

According to the NYT, Obama's heavy regulation, absurd spending and forthcoming tax increases have killed the demand for premium wines.

However, consumers may benefit from this.
Premium producers who need to make room for the new vintage may sell their wines on the bulk market, even at a loss. These premium wines in turn will be repackaged and sold inexpensively, though it will be difficult for consumers to identify which bottles benefit from a premium wine infusion.
Over the years, I have drank some repackaged wines made from excess grapes. Amarone recommended one a few years ago on TOB that was outstanding. It seems to me that consumers who have a relationship with a wine merchant or folks in the industry should be able to identify and locate these wines that most likely will be sold in the $20 range.
